Senior occupational safety and health specialist Shonda Perkins came to the OOC in July 2013 with experience in the government and private sectors.  

Prior to joining the OOC, Ms. Perkins served as secretary to the Colonial Chapter of the American Society of Safety Engineers.  She also served on the Prince George, Va. Emergency Planning Committee.  Ms. Perkins worked at the University of North Carolina-Greensboro, as the Safety Coordinator. In the private sector, she worked as the Safety and Security Manager for Perdue Farms, where in her first year she helped reduce recordable injuries by 50 percent and improved the annual safety audit score to 99 percent.  She has numerous advanced post professional safety training including electrical training, confined space training, fire inspection and codes. 

Ms. Perkins has a bachelor's degree in industrial distribution and logistics from East Carolina University (ECU). She has a master's degree in occupational safety from ECU.
